IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE 2021 MOCHA GROUP AWARDS

The 2021 Australian Beauty Industry Awards which include the Australian Make Up Industry Awards, the 2021 Australian Hair Industry Awards – Business, and the inaugural 2021 Australian Modern Barber Awards, which were due to be held on 14thNovember, 28th November and the 6th December respectively, will not be going ahead as planned but instead be presented as pre-recorded live stream events and all tickets already purchased will of course be fully refunded.

Based on government and venue advice, it looks like QLD borders will remain closed to some states until at least early December, so we need to rule out the possibility of all ABIA and AHIA-Business guests being able to attend. Due to these border restrictions, we can now assume only QLD and SA finalists, guests and sponsors of the ABIA and AHIA could attend, and possibly WA, however with 69% of all probable attendees being from NSW and VIC for ABIA, and 62% for AHIA, so many people would miss out on coming. There is also no guarantee that further restrictions or lockdowns will not happen in the coming months making it increasingly difficult to plan anything this side of Christmas!

With the AMBA awards event due to be held in Melbourne, while we have looked at a location-move to Adelaide, again, we are still in a bit of a ‘roll-the-dice’ situation when it comes to lockdowns etc and there would be nothing worse than planning the event only to have to cancel.

On top of this, it is also hard to determine what kind of event we can host with rules often changing in all states regarding the need to be seated, no dancing, number restrictions, vaccination status, further lockdowns and the uncertainty of travel, isolation or even quarantine rulings.

There are just so many variables, that keep changing, when it comes to events this year, as well as an instrumental factor in our decision, knowing how much NSW and VIC have been through already and not being able to offer a fully inclusive event to those that desperately want to attend.

By doing a pre-recorded live stream, produced in such a way to incite excitement and celebration, all finalists can be part of the awards, hold their own events at the same time in their home states and not miss out and all of our valued sponsors get to pre-record their message personally to also be involved in the best way for them. I believe that this is the fairest plan for all stakeholders including finalists, guests and sponsors. With over 8000 views combined on our ABIA and AHIA online events last year, doing this is also a better outcome for our valued sponsors, who I am sure will support us once again 2022, when I am confident, we will be able to bring some incredible events back to both industries.

We are not prepared to put our guests through unnecessary cost and uncertainty, be forced into being selective with who can attend and offer a less than stellar event, not to mention have the genuine prospect of a last-minute cancellation. I believe we have made the right decision by moving to pre-record live stream for all 2021 mocha events taking into consideration the commercial viability, return on investment by sponsors, health, safety and financial commitment of all attendees and morally the right thing to do for ALL finalists.

So, WE ARE GOING LIVE!

ALL AWARD DATES REMAIN THE SAME AS ALREADY PLANNED

ABIA/AHIA – SUNDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 8PM AEDT

AHIA – SUNDAY 28TH NOVEMBER 8PM AEDT

AMBA – SUNDAY 5TH DECEMBER 8PM AEDT

All events will be hosted online and streamed Live across on our relevant Facebook pages and You Tube channel with full details to come! We encourage finalists to plan their own parties to watch together, dress up, have a few cocktails and enjoy the night as best they can, where ever they are and what is, of course, allowed.

After the event, we will be sending all winners their trophies, social tiles, press releases etc. and ask that they all film their own acceptance speeches and send to us, so that we can post their thank-you messages as we always do for everyone to see and share online.

All winners will also receive coverage in upcoming editions of Hair Biz, Beauty Biz and Barbershop mags and once again, we have contracted the services of well-known Branding and Communications experts, Lily Blue Communications, and under the guidance of owner Jo Coles, all winners will receive a personalised press release, recommendation of local press and digital opportunities and a ‘how-to’ PR document. A media package worth winning that is directed towards building profile and business.

While this news may not be ideal for all, we believe that it is the best we can do in the current climate and we can’t wait to announce our 2021 winners so that they can utilise these important accolades in ongoing marketing and then look ahead to an incredible 2022.

Thank you and best regards to you all, in safety and in health
