The team at Mocha Publishing have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation over recent days.

The Australian Government have announced that as of Monday 16th March 2020 all non-essential gatherings of over 500 people should be avoided and that all international travellers arriving into Australia will need to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Owner of Mocha Publishing, Linda Woodhead has been attending a conference in Bali where she was a keynote speaker and so the 14-day quarantine will apply to her on her return.

Our priority is to ensure the safety, health and well-being of the members of our Hair and Beauty community through our events and awards.

We believe that while we take the current situation very seriously, we are also mindful of the importance of continuing with a positive attitude so that we can educate, celebrate and acknowledge all of the incredible people within the hair, beauty and barber industries through our events.

As a result, we are, for the time being, capping the numbers of tickets to both Hair Biz Forum and the Australian Hair Industry Awards 2020, to 450 to ensure we are under the recommended level.

We understand that this decision may mean that some of you may miss out, but it is important that as passionate Australians we get behind the leadership of our country and ensure that Australia stays in front of the curve in relation to COVID-19.

Rest assured Mocha Publishing will continue to monitor official advice from both health, federal and state government authorities on an ongoing basis and if this recommendation is lifted then we will most certainlyremove the capping of tickets. Alternatively, if the situation worsens we will be making further decisions as more information comes to hand.

We have currently suspended our EventBrite Ticketing account based on their decision to hold all funds until after an event, and have brought all ticket sales in house to allow us to monitor ticket sales more thoroughly and emails will be sent out to all Finalists and sponsors of the AHIA’s shortly for them to purchase tickets as a priority over the next few weeks.

Please rest assured that if for any reason Hair Biz Forum or AHIA is cancelled due to further restrictions, all ticket holders will receive a 100% refund and this includes tickets already purchased.

In regard to the venue – The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) puts the health and safety of guests and team members at the top of its priorities and is actively monitoring the Coronavirus (Covid-19) situation.

They have put in place precautionary measures, as recommended by the Australian Government Department of Health and the World Health Organization. These include:

  • Hand sanitisers throughout the venue
  • Mobile hand washing stations and bins throughout the venue
  • Digital and printed hygiene signage in all bathrooms and foyers
  • Additional and more frequent cleaning and sterilisation protocols of the building
  • Reinforced health and hygiene practices amongst team members.

We will keep you informed of any ongoing changes with the hope that we can bring you news of lifting this restriction to numbers as soon as possible.

Your sincerely

Linda Woodhead
